A powerful coalition organizing our influence to ensure California’s ECE system is culturally affirming for Black children, families, and educators.
BlackECE (Black Californians United for Early Care and Education) is a dedicated organization committed to advancing equitable early care and education for Black Californians. With a vision of ensuring every child has access to quality education, BlackECE stands as a beacon of advocacy, empowerment, and change.
In my role as the Woman Who Makes Us Look Good (Marketing Director) for BlackECE, I had the privilege of actively contributing to their mission. My responsibilities encompassed various aspects of digital and visual communication, including content creation, social media management, brand development, print material design, merchandise artwork, and website enhancement.
I played a pivotal role in shaping BlackECE’s online presence, designing and developing engaging content that resonated with their audience. This included crafting and managing social media campaigns, promoting fundraisers, and developing brand elements that reinforced their identity.
Furthermore, I took the initiative to improve the organization’s website, enhancing both its design aesthetics and functionality. This endeavor aimed to create a user-friendly platform that effectively communicated BlackECE’s values and goals.
Working with BlackECE allowed me to contribute to a noble cause, leveraging my skills to amplify their message and drive positive change in early care and education for Black children and families. Together, we stood at the forefront of advocacy and empowerment, forging a brighter future for generations to come.

On various occasions, I have been tasked with developing designs for print materials for BlackECE, including t-shirts and flyers. When designing BlackECE’s t-shirts, I aimed to create a deliberate and impactful design for the song lyrics. My priority was to ensure the lyrics stood out powerfully, underlining their significance. To achieve this, I meticulously selected fonts that accentuated the words’ strength and meaning, making sure they resonated with the essence of BlackECE’s mission.
The most recent large project I have completed for BlackECE is the 2025 BlackECE Symposium: Dismantling Linguistic Oppression program. The 2025 program was printed as a personal journal for each attendee to take home with them. Having this in mind, I wanted to be very intentional on the impact of the design of the journal to prompt attendees to continue using the program beyond the duration of the symposium.
With the help BlackECE’s Wisdom Circle member, Michael Brown, the outline of the program was developed: journal prompts, Black English glossary, madlibs, crossword puzzles, and more. It was important for me to utilize visuals and design elements that served to convey the organization’s dedication to early care and education without explicitly mentioning it. The design maintained a clear and organized layout, directing readers to explore more about BlackECE’s crucial work. Ultimately, my goal was to create designs that not only captured attention but also left a lasting impression, solidifying the connection between BlackECE and its audience.
In my role as the creative mind behind BlackECE’s social media content artwork, I craft designs that seamlessly align with the organization’s identity and mission. My process revolves around a deep understanding of BlackECE’s branding guidelines and a commitment to promoting its vital work and fundraising efforts.
I begin each design endeavor with a thorough immersion in BlackECE’s visual identity, ensuring that every element adheres faithfully to established branding principles. My focus extends beyond aesthetics; I aim to tell a compelling story through visuals. Whether it’s showcasing their early care and education initiatives or rallying support for fundraising campaigns, my artwork is designed to captivate and inspire action. Using color, imagery, typography, and composition, I create visuals that convey the urgency and significance of BlackECE’s mission, forging a stronger connection with the audience and advancing the cause of equity and justice.
